For the Matshed Annexe and Peak Hotel Hospitals, to be administered by the Principal Civil Medical Officer, the Staff of the Government Civil Hospital and of the Victoria Hospital for Women and Children will be partly available but will have to be supplemented by the following:-

Matshed Annexe Peak Hotel Total Doctors 1 2 Nursing Sisters 12 Chinese Attendants.. 16 16 32 hard Coolies... 8 12 Cooks.... 4 6 2

Drs. Mulier, Justi and Harston who (except the last named with whom the Principal Civil Medical Officer will communicate) have expressed themselves unconditionally as prepared to place their services at the disposal of Government for work in the Naval and Military Hospitals in time of war will be called upon to serve in the Matshed Annexe and Peak Hotel Hospitals as soon as it is known that these will be occupied, It is proposed to pay them at the rate of $900 per mensem.

it is not advisable to count on the services of any of the five private Nurses in the Colony whose time is fully occupied in nursing private cases, though one or two of them right possibly be available in an emergency. It will therefore be necessary that 12 Nursing Sisters should be sent from England as passages can be provided for them in Hospital Ships. Pending their arrival some assistance would be obtained from ladies in the Colony who are at present attending ambulance classes and will subsequently go through a Nursing Course and if they pass qualifying examinations will be asked to register their names for services in the Hospitals. 74 ladies have commenced the course but a large proportion of these have families and even if they qualify are not likely to be available for public work.
